Best test result: #1 of 19 in 2023 UTAC Large Winter Tire Test R16 (wet handling)

“I'm starting to look at tyres as my originals are not far off the end of life and getting ready for winter (you tell its tipping down outside!). Michelin Cross Climates are mentioned a lot in this thread, whereas a google came up with Continental All Season Contact which are available and well reviewed. Was there any reason why the Contis are bring overlooked? I don't intend to swap summer and winter tyres, they'd be in the car until they need changing. Camskill and blackcirles between them list the following options: Goodyear Vector 4 season gen3 suv Conti all season Mich CC2 (in Volvo spec) Vredstien quatrac pro Can't see the pirelli's listed anyway so far Any to rule out? I'm thinking conti because I'm not a fan of the Mich gap/owverhang where it joins the rim”

Best test result: #3 of 8 in 2022 Consumer Reports All-Season Tires (tested tread life (miles))

“I have the General Altimax RT43 on 19s as my winter tires, and they are perfectly fine. For sure louder than oem, because there is no foam, but for wear, tear and handling, perfectly fine. I am not racing anyone or driving aggressively with those tires on anyway.”

Tire A

Continental AllSeasonContact

Mixed

Community opinion on the Continental AllSeasonContact is generally positive regarding its winter and wet weather performance, but mixed when it comes to noise, ride harshness, and wear characteristics. Users appreciate its strong snow and rain capabilities compared to competitors, though some note drawbacks such as increased road noise or stiffness over time, particularly for XL-rated variants. Additionally, availability is primarily focused in Europe, making it a well-regarded option overseas while being largely absent in North America.

“How old is the tyre? Are they correctly inflated? What car? what is the rating of the tire 91W, 94W, more? It's a XL tyre so extra stiff. The continental Conti ASC tyres are not quiet, but you bought a new car, so you do not know how quiet it cab be with other tyres. Some cars are just loud.”

“.... Nexen beats out Michelin, Continental, Goodyear and Nokian Surprise loser, is Michelin. Test winner: Nexen N blue 4 Season To solve the goal conflicts succeeds in the test the Nexen N blue 4 Season best. With good performances on wet and ice, the Korean tire on dry and snow-covered road is a bit weaker, but still acceptable. The new AllSeasonContact from Conti , on the other hand, solves the classic conflict of objectives of wetness vs. Snow very well - but at the expense of performance on dry roads. On dry land, the next-ranked Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 and Nokian Wheatherproof are also showing weaknesses. With the exception of the Firestone (worst dry and wet performance), all tires behind it ride on snow only below average - even the most expensive model in the test, the low- wear CrossClimate from Michelin”

“Am avut Conti All Season Contact Mk1 cu dimensiunea 235/45/18. Le-am tinut 4 ani, in care am facut 120.000 km cu ele ( 93% regim de autostrada ).

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Handling is the exception: road tests measure it inside the dry and wet scores, so its own row comes from owner ratings only and starts as less important.
