What owners say

No road-test results yet, so every score here comes from owner reviews found online.

How scores work
Relative score
0–100. Blends road tests (60%) and owner reviews (40%) category by category, the same way on every TireWheelGuide page. With only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from it, so the score stays closer to average. It needs at least one road test or five owner reviews.
Road tests
0–100 per score, from published tests, newer tests counting more. Each result is compared with every other tire in the same test, so a win against a strong field counts for more. The average tested tire gets 70, the best 100; with only one or two tests a tire stays nearer 70. The discipline rows show % of the best tire in that test.
Owner reviews
0–100 from the owner reviews we found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates and scaled like the road tests: the average tested tire gets 70. With only a few reviews a tire stays near the average.

What owners like and dislike

Themes extracted from 44 owner reviews found online.

Reviewers, almost all of them verified buyers on a retailer, rate the Nitto NT420V very highly. They praise its quiet, comfortable ride, strong dry and wet grip, good looks and value for money, and many are repeat Nitto buyers. The few complaints concern balancing problems, noise that developed with age, and shipping rather than the tire's core performance.

Pros

  • Very low road noise: many reviewers call it quiet or 'non existent', and some say it stays quiet after 30,000 miles.
  • Strong traction in dry and wet conditions. Reviewers describe dry grip as 'phenomenal' and wet grip as 'second to none' or better than OE Goodyears. One reports confident handling on snow and ice.
  • Smooth, comfortable ride with good handling, balancing and braking. Reviewers say it is a clear step up from OE tires (Goodyear, Bridgestone, run-flats) and from a Pirelli.
  • Good value and durability. Reviewers cite a fair price, excellent wear, 5,000 to 30,000+ miles with life left, and a good-looking tire. Many say they are repeat Nitto buyers.
  • Stable under load and efficient. One owner towing about 7,500 lbs reported no issues and a gain of about 4 mpg over previous terrain tires.

Cons

  • Noise and vibration can develop with age. One Sierra owner reported a loud highway hum and low-speed vibration after about a year, which improved only partly at 40 psi.
  • Balancing difficulty in at least one case. A lifted Expedition owner could not get the tires to balance despite repeated attempts.
  • Wet performance is not universally praised. One reviewer called it 'not terrible' in rain and another described the rain capability as 'decent'.
  • Retailer shipping problems: one reviewer reported 5-day delivery against a promised 1 day and scuffed sidewalls. These are not tire flaws.
  • Not ideal for heavy towing, according to one reviewer's caveat.

Worth knowing

  • Owners of large trucks and SUVs (Ram, Hellcat Durango, Infiniti QX80, BMW X5, GMC Sierra) are the main buyers. They generally report a quiet, comfortable ride and improved handling over OE tires, including on 22-inch and 24-inch wheels.
  • A 305-width setup on 20x12 wheels fit and ran well, with good highway rain behavior and stable towing. Lifted or modified vehicles produced mixed results, such as the Expedition's balancing problems.
  • Luxury SUV (QX80) owners praised snow and ice handling and a notable step up from the OE Bridgestone tires.
