How scores work
- Relative score
- 0–100. Blends road tests (60%) and owner reviews (40%) category by category, the same way on every TireWheelGuide page. With only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from it, so the score stays closer to average. It needs at least one road test or five owner reviews.
- Road tests
- 0–100 per score, from published tests, newer tests counting more. Each result is compared with every other tire in the same test, so a win against a strong field counts for more. The average tested tire gets 70, the best 100; with only one or two tests a tire stays nearer 70. The discipline rows show % of the best tire in that test.
- Owner reviews
- 0–100 from the owner reviews we found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates and scaled like the road tests: the average tested tire gets 70. With only a few reviews a tire stays near the average.

The BFGoodrich Trail Terrain TA is generally well received as a quiet, comfortable on-road all-terrain tire with capable snow and light off-road performance. Most reviewers praise its road manners, handling and durability. A notable minority, mostly UK-based, report poor wet-road traction and wheelspin, which sharply divides opinion.
Pros
- Low road noise for an all-terrain tire, with several reviewers calling it quieter than previous tires such as the AT3 and other all-terrains
- Strong snow and ice performance, including a Colorado snowstorm and multiple Alps trips with up to a foot of snow
- Comfortable, smooth ride and good handling and braking on the road
- Good durability and tread life, including sidewalls that survived granite rock scrapes and one reviewer at 78,000 km with 4.5 mm remaining
- Capable on gravel, dirt, grass, rock and mud, with a good balance of on-road grip and off-road traction
Cons
- Poor wet-weather traction reported by several reviewers, including wheelspin, lack of confidence on wet roads and ABS activation issues
- Some reviewers found road noise high on paved surfaces, and one called it outrageously noisy, though others found it quiet
- Wear is faster for some owners, with one set nearing replacement after about 20,000 miles and two years
- Some reviewers say it is unsuitable for wet climates such as the UK
Worth knowing
- Vehicle information was mostly not provided and no tire sizes were listed, so size-specific conclusions cannot be drawn.
- Heavier or truck-type vehicles had mixed outcomes: a Hilux used as a family car had severe wet-grip problems, while another reviewer was happy with the tire on a big truck.
- Owners of SUVs and crossovers, including a 2008 Discovery 3 and a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid, praised the quiet, smooth ride and good road grip, and the RAV4 owner reported long tread life.
