Best test result: #1 of 15 in 2019 Summer and All Season Tyre Test (wet braking)

“I've just had these fitted too and have to say they seem much quieter than my Kumhos and certainly dry grip is excellent ( though I don't tend to drift round corners, unless something has gone wrong!)”

“FWIW the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 225/60 R16 102W XL tyres arrived and were installed today. The difference with previous tyres is like night and day. I have a 1200 km work trip later this week and I thought I'd take the Benz out. Interesting to see how they "break in" and how much if at all difference there is in mpg.”

“GOODYEAR EfficientGrip Performance 205/55 R17 91V - reliability and resistance to damage question Hello guys! I'm driving Skoda Octavia. not a racer, just a usual 40yo man. I have a set of GOODYEAR EfficientGrip Performance 205/55 R17 91V on the car, and during the last 2 months I lost three tires, all the same way - pothole on the road, visibly small, front right wheel, instantly deflates, and a hole in tire not on tread but on the side - irreparable, new tire for 130eur, repeat again. Do you by chance know if it's the pattern for the model, or am I getting EXTREMELY unlucky? Can you maybe suggest some tire models and characteristics to look into to stop this from happening? I have only 2 out of 4 original tires left, so maybe it makes sense to change the entire set. Read more”

“Wet Braking Demonstration FlexContact Tech in the EGP series tyres implies the use of a new polymer tread compound for better grip in wet road conditions: For demonstration, we again had a GLA shod with Goodyear EGP tyres. The car would do three runs on the main straight and brake to a halt on an artificially created wet patch. After each run and subsequent halt, the braking distance was recorded. The braking distances between the 3 runs on the Goodyear tyres were averaged to 24.5 meters from point of braking to an absolute halt: Thereafter, the EGP tyres were swapped for a set of Continentals to do 3 identical runs in order to draw a direct reference point: Care was taken to maintain the wet patch in identical conditions by making use of mobile mini-tankers parked along the track: Panoramic alignment gone bad! Soon enough, we had the GLA ready to take on the wet braking test with the Continental tyres. The car averaged a braking distance of 25.5 meters from point of braking to an absolute halt:”

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Handling is the exception: road tests measure it inside the dry and wet scores, so its own row comes from owner ratings only and starts as less important.
