Kumho Crugen HP71
Community opinions on the Kumho Crugen HP71 (including EV variants) are generally mixed, primarily leaning on price and initial comfort versus longevity. Many users appreciate the affordable pricing, quiet/smooth ride, and good handling, but a significant number report faster-than-expected tread wear and occasional issues with foam lining separation or durability on heavier vehicles.
“New Tire Woes: Trouble finding XL Load rating. Any advice? 2026 EV9 LLR with 20k miles in SoCal (3 year lease) and the Kumho Crugen HP71 EV wore very quickly despite alignment checks etc early in the lease. Note that these stock tires are 130V with XL load rasting. Most disconcerting is that despite some modest tread left, I hydroplaned on some sprinkler runoff...so I'm not confident in these tires with the upcoming El Nino. This subreddit seems to love the Michelin CrossClimate2 but they don't come in XL load rating in this size. Neither do Defenders. The two main options are: 1. **Hankook iON evo AS SUV** (OE on some EV9s) - But these are seemingly backordered at multiple tire shops. An online vendor cancelled my order despite showing in stock on the site. 2. **Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season**. **Any advice, and anyone have experience with those Pirellis?**”

“Kumho Crugen HP71 235/50R19XL 103V BSW ($132.44/each) Total: $264.88 Kumho Crugen EV HP71 255/45R19XL 104V BSW ($287.70/each Gigatires about a month ago I feel like they're just as good as the Continentals that came with the car It's crazy that these EVS have different size tires front and rear, prevents rotating tires for even wear. It's also surprising that the cost difference from the front the rear was so much different. It was also like that with numerous other manufacturers. I also drive about 24,000 mi a year, so we'll see if they hold up.”

How do we compare tires?
Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.
Handling is the exception: road tests measure it inside the dry and wet scores, so its own row comes from owner ratings only and starts as less important.
