Tire A

Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 PLUS

Positive

The community generally views the DWS 06 Plus as one of the best ultra-high-performance all-season tires. Owners praise its wet and dry grip, ride comfort, quietness, and light-snow manners, and many compare it favorably to the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4, often at a lower price. Criticisms include inconsistent tread life (some report about 25k miles while others get 50k), balancing difficulty, soft sidewall or squirmy feel, noise as the tires age, and the fact that they are not a substitute for dedicated winter tires.

swedespeed.com ·2024-10-03

“Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus are THE standard for a reason for high performance all-season tires. They have been the best for years and all other brands are only just now catching up to them. If you don't care as much about performance in dry then yeah the CC2 are a fine choice. Personally I deal with bad winters so I run DWS06 Plus as my summer set and then in the winter I switch to my Vredestein Wintrac Pro XL set on dedicated wheels. I run all-seasons in the summer in case we get some early ice/snow before I've swapped sets but nothing beats dedicated winter tires when you need them. Given, I live on a mountain with steep hills and a dirt road, I regularly deal with snow deep enough to high-center the car. If you don't deal with those conditions you can probably get away with all-seasons okay.”

“I just put them on my 17 Z06. $1190.00 for the set. Huge difference on cold days with regards to traction. I had these on my Chevy SS Sedan for years and loved them. Only complaint is that if the car sits for a couple of weeks you will notice a slight vibration due to low spot until they even out, at least that's what I encountered on the original DSW's. I also noticed since these are not run flats that the bumps are not as harsh, which hopefully will reduce potential rim cracks. That's the hope but with our MI roads it's a never ending battle! Good luck in your decision!”

“2.0T + Cont Extremecontact = win Replaced my stock tires at just shy of 35k miles with Continental Extremecontact DWS06 plus tires....my oh MY what a difference! Even when brand-new, the stock michelin all-seasons would spin out every time I'd try to launch...no longer an issue/these feel like a dream. I feel like I'm driving a completely different car now. Far better corner handling/lane changing as well, and they honestly seem to have less road noise as well. To anyone who feels they don't have enough grip/handling on their 2.0T, these are the answer. Haven't had the chance to test in heavy rain yet (or snow come winter), but I'm sure they'll handle well. 10/10 after about a hundred miles or so (likely not even "broken in" yet) Read more”

Tire B

Falken WildPeak A/T Trail

Positive

The community is strongly positive, especially Subaru, Bronco, and crossover owners, who praise the Wildpeak A/T Trail as a quiet, smooth-riding all-terrain tire with good on-road manners, light off-road ability, and strong snow performance thanks to its 3-peak rating. Common drawbacks are a small MPG drop of about 1 mpg from the heavier tire, and a few isolated complaints about sidewall finish or browning, cracking, and uneven shoulder wear. Tire Rack testing cited in the posts ranked it best in dry conditions but weakest in winter among the tires compared.

“Need some help deciding between these 3 tires for my 19" gemini's MY 1. Michelin Cross Climate 2 2. Vredestien Quatrac Pro 3. Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail I live in SoCal and the new tires will be on year round. Drive the car about 40mi a week with weekend trips up to the snow (Mammoth Mountain) 1-2 times a month.. so snow performance is pretty high up there for me. I hear great things about all these tires and might be leaning slightly towards the wildpeak's just because we enjoy camping in the tesla and doing minor offroad (fireroads mostly so any of these tires would be fine) but I do like that they will lift the car slightly as well. I am also a bit concerned of the range hit, I've read that the wildpeak's and Quatrac Pro's aren't bad at all, but would like to get some more input from you guys on these 3 tires. Thanks!”

“Falken make a 'Mild' all-terrain tire in our OE sizes now called FALKEN WILDPEAK A/T TRAIL . Performed really good in the snow, my daughter has been using them on her Cherokee Trailhawk for the past couple years with no complaints. A little bit less aggressive than the FALKEN WILDPEAK A/T3W's that I am using on my Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. I don't know what size tires that you are sporting, but the link above is for the OE 20 inch wheels. OE 18 wheels options available also.”

“Tire Fitment 235/50/18 Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail Just uploading some pictures of my new tires and they for sure fit with no rubbing if anyone was unsure about getting wider tires on stock wheels. These were just installed so I can’t really speak on MPG differences but the ride feels smoother than the stock tires. The tire shop I had them installed at was worried about the fitment and it’s close, but they don’t rub at maximum wheel turn at all. Stock tires are trash in the snow and leave a lot to be desired as far as traction goes on dry pavement. I’m hoping the triple snow peak rating and more tire width will significantly improve traction in the snow. In the next week or so I’ll also be finishing a DIY steel engine skid plate that I’m currently working on. I’ll try to get dimensions for it once fitment is confirmed in case anyone is interested in doing the same. Overall, my plan is to also install a 40mm leveling lift kit to add some piece of mind on forest roads. I’m also going to add spacers under neath my trunk panel so I can fit a full sized spare tire with out the floor of the trunk being unsteady. I live in Colorado and enjoy the mountains here so these mods will hopefully make living with this car better for me. I don’t plan on doing any gnarly trails in this car but I’m excited to take it out with slightly better piece of mind. Read more”

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Handling is the exception: road tests measure it inside the dry and wet scores, so its own row comes from owner ratings only and starts as less important.
