Best test result: #1 of 35 in 2023 All Season Tyre 35 Set Shootout (dry braking)

“CrossClimate2 in. Alenza Run Flats out. Swapped the Alenza run flats for CrossClimate2 all-weather tires. Sharper handling. Better ride comfort. Very quiet after an initial break-in period. Just make sure the tire pressure is as recommended on the door sill sticker, shop techs don’t always check. I’m an early adopter of CC2 tires, been using them on my old Jeep since 2022, super durable and perfect for inclement weather, still had some tread remaining at the 60k-mile warranty mark.”

Tire A

Michelin CrossClimate 2

Positive

The community overwhelmingly praises the Michelin CrossClimate 2 for its exceptional snow, ice, and wet-weather traction, often describing it as an ideal all-weather tire. While many drivers report a quiet, comfortable ride and solid durability, some users note potential downsides including reduced fuel or battery efficiency, road noise on certain surfaces, and premium pricing. A few commenters also point out that the tire may be overkill for regions without significant winter weather.

“New CrossClimate 2 tires almost stranded my family. Massive efficiency drop on Model Y. Just a heads-up for anyone swapping to Michelin CrossClimate 2s. Put a set on my Model Y about 3 weeks ago from Discount Tire and just did a road trip from Denver to Taos, NM with my wife and two toddlers. We charged up to 90% at the Pueblo Supercharger, and the Tesla app estimated we would arrive in Taos with 15% battery remaining. Well, the new tire efficiency hit is incredibly real. The range dropped so fast that we were tracking to hit 0% and had to make an emergency Type 2 charging stop on the way just to make sure we didn't get stranded with the kids in the car. I’m now seriously thinking about taking advantage of Discount Tire's return policy and going back to the OEM Continental ProContact RX. Has anyone else faced similar problems or massive efficiency drops when switching to the CC2s? Does the range eventually get better after a break-in period, or should I just cut my losses and swap back to the Continentals? I need something reliable for road trips with the family, so I'd love to hear your suggestions and experiences!”

“I have the 235 that is a little higher load rating (105 vs 103 stock and 99 for 225). I'm probably getting about a 10% range reduction, but worth it to me for the improved handling and lower braking distance. I work from home and I charge to 90% about once a week unless taking a longer drive. If I did a lot of longer trips it might be an issue, but I am very happy with these tires.”

“Michelin CrossClimate2 efficiency surprisingly good! Just put in a new set of Michelin CrossClimate2s to go along with a move from LA to New England. I was a bit worried about the mileage/range hit but figured the safety in the winter outweighed it. I'm pleasantly surprised! On an all-highway trip from Boston to New Jersey, gas MPG was a steady 42 mpgs and I got about 45 miles on the battery, although I drive like a grandma at the posted speed limits so I think I was close to 44 mpg/45 EV miles on the old OEM tires. Around town in suburbia in good weather I'm still running between 4.0-5.0 miles/kWh. I estimate, at worst, a 5% drop in efficiency. Pretty good considering the Michelins feel so much stickier!”

Positive

Community discussions view the Yokohama ADVAN Sport A/S+ favorably as a competent ultra-high-performance all-season tire that delivers smooth, quiet comfort and dependable wet and cold-weather handling. Drivers highlight its value compared to pricier competitors, though some note limits under high horsepower, question winter capabilities, or report premature tread wear and chunking.

“Yokohama Advan Sport A/S+ Tires shot? Hello all. Question for you, I got these in June of 2021. (KIA Forte5 EX 215/45 R17) They have 28,500 miles on them, and are rated for 55k miles. I hit a nail and went to Discount Tire to get them plugged. They said the tires were shot (even though they have 4mm left on them) due to chunking. I bought them at the dealership I got my car at, and they also confirmed they were shot and needed replaced. However, the dealer only covered them with a 2 year warranty, so won't help to replace prorating them or anything. Both places said it looks like I either ride on gravel roads often or corner too hard. I live outside of Raleigh, no gravel roads... and I don't know that I've ever corned too hard, as I never hear them squeal nor would drive the fool with my daughter and/or wife in the car. Is it worth contacting Yokohama? Is something else wrong with my car? Am I doing something wrong? If I were to get new all season tires, what would you recommend? TIA for any info / advice.”

“If you want a very good (Michelin or better type), smooth, quite, great in rain, longer lasting tire and less expensive, get the P7 A/S Plus 3. If you want a tire that is more performance oriented that is the same plus, get the Yokohama Advan Sport A/S+. The Yok handles excellent and impressive and is going to last longer than all the other performance tires. The P Zero AS 3 just is a bit better than the former P Zeros which all wore out super fast. There is already comments from some that used it longer term that it in fact wore extremely fast still. It's labeled as a "Ultra High performance" tire.”

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Handling is the exception: road tests measure it inside the dry and wet scores, so its own row comes from owner ratings only and starts as less important.
