Best test result: #1 of 20 in 2019 Auto Bild Summer Tyre Test (dry handling)

“New rubber for the road wheels Pirelli P-Zero RS TLR 30mm, measuring 33mm on 25mm inner rim width. Rides like a dream, but the center thread is narrow, so I'd not feel confident if I raced anything with tighter cornering.”

Pirelli P Zero

Mixed

Community opinions on the Pirelli P Zero tire line are divided depending on whether users are discussing the cycling tires or automotive variants. Cyclists generally praise the road and gravel options for speed, comfort, and grip, though some note they can be difficult to mount. Automotive users offer a more mixed review, praising the high-performance grip, responsive steering, and comfort of options like the P Zero AS Plus 3, while frequently criticizing summer and OE variants for rapid tread wear, wet weather traction issues, and susceptibility to sidewall bubbles.

“2024 J1.1 GTS Sport Turismo on 21" Spyder RS wheels here. Went from Pirelli PZero's to NF1 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5's recently. They don't seem any louder than the PZero's, dry grip seems about the same, as does comfort. Wet grip and performance in cold conditions (I'm in Scotland, UK) over the PZero's is noticeably better. Very little in the way of the Ackerman effect in cold temperatures, compared to the PZero's which made an awful noise and skipped badly when turning at slow speeds, pulling out of junctions. Will see how they do wear rate wise, PZero's had about 2.5 to 3mm left at 16k miles. Anything approaching that on the ASY5's would be good. Unfortunately on the J1.1 on 21"'s the choice is essentially PZero's or ASY5's. Which is disappointing as I had PS4S's and CSC7's on my previous cars (G81 M3 and M340i Touring) and they were fantastic.”

“The only tires on your list that I have tried are Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 and Pirelli P-Zero. Both provide excellent traction. I found the Pirellis to wear slightly faster than the Michelins and also to become noisy as they approach the end of their life. This isn't the case with the Michelins. The only "cheap" tires that I've tried on the 996 are Sumitomos. I won't ever do that again. I really like the way the car performs with the PS2 and I will continue to buy them.”

“I put a set of Pirelli P Zero AS3's on my 2019 Mazda 3. After driving about 1,500 miles, I can say that I love them. The steering has a very direct feel - it turns in almost immediately. Needless to say the grip is fantastic. ... and that is only with outside air temps in the 50's. I can't wait to see how they perform when it gets to be in the 70's and they can get some heat in them. One of the reasons I was attracted to this tire is that Pirelli claims to have incorporated technology that helps the tires maintain the same level of performance as they wear over time. I have been frustrated in the past to see how tires loose their grip long before the treadwear gets low. Also, it didn't hurt that Pirelli had a $100 instant rebate!”

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Handling is the exception: road tests measure it inside the dry and wet scores, so its own row comes from owner ratings only and starts as less important.
