Two scoring systems, side by side
Owner scores come from reviews found online; road-test scores come from instrumented tests. Where they disagree, it is usually a discipline owners rarely push to the limit.
How scores work
- Relative score
- 0–100. Blends road tests (60%) and owner reviews (40%) category by category, the same way on every TireWheelGuide page. With only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from it, so the score stays closer to average. It needs at least one road test or five owner reviews.
- Road tests
- 0–100 per score, from published tests, newer tests counting more. Each result is compared with every other tire in the same test, so a win against a strong field counts for more. The average tested tire gets 70, the best 100; with only one or two tests a tire stays nearer 70. The discipline rows show % of the best tire in that test.
- Owner reviews
- 0–100 from the owner reviews we found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates and scaled like the road tests: the average tested tire gets 70. With only a few reviews a tire stays near the average.
By owner reviews
78/100From 57 owner reviews analysed, scaled like the road tests: the average tested tire gets 70.
By road tests
82/100Scaled across every tested tire: the average gets 70, the best 100.
What owners like and dislike
Themes extracted from 57 owner reviews found online.
The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 Energy is received very positively, with reviewers praising its wet and dry grip, stability, low rolling resistance and generally low road noise. It is seen as a refined, efficient upgrade over many OEM tires, including the e.Primacy, Hankook Ventus S1 Evo 3 EV and the Pilot Sport 4. Criticism is limited, mainly some residual road noise and a firm ride in a few cases.
Pros
- Strong grip and confidence in wet conditions, with owners reporting stable, trustworthy handling and better cornering in the rain
- Good dry handling and high-speed stability, with resistance to aquaplaning reported as better than a set of winter tires
- Low rolling resistance and improved efficiency, including one EV owner who went from 3.8 to 4.2 miles per kWh and another who reported good consumption for a UHP tire
- Quiet running and reduced road noise compared with previous tires, including the OEM Pilot Sport 4
- Refined, solid and comfortable feel, with an attractive sidewall design noted by several reviewers
Cons
- Road noise is not fully eliminated, and some reviewers still found it loud or noted it increasing slightly toward 10,000 km
- One reviewer found the ride harsh and firm and not bouncy enough, attributing this to the noise-reducing insulation
- Long-term durability is still unproven, as most reviews are early impressions and one reviewer is waiting to see how the tires last in Singapore's heat
Worth knowing
- Most feedback comes from EV owners, including a Tesla Model 3 owner, who highlighted efficiency gains and range-friendly rolling resistance. Vehicle and size fields were blank in the dataset, so these points come from review text only.
- Owners replacing EV-focused OEM tires, such as the Hankook Ventus S1 Evo 3 EV and Michelin e.Primacy, reported improved wet confidence, ride comfort, steering agility and less traction-control intervention.
- A Model 3 owner said road noise remains fairly loud but attributed this to the car rather than the tire.
