BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 vs General Grabber HTS — Compared

“I’ve got KO2s on a 4Runner currently, and have ran 10 other sets in the past. Installed these KO3s on a GMC Sierra 1500 a couple months ago, and I’m up to 12K miles on them so far and adding another 3K miles to that this week. Also running Mickey Thomson Baja Boss ATs on my Tremor currently with about 12K on them as well. I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the KO2s durability, overall wear, and mileage on lighter vehicles such as half tons and the 4Runner. I haven’t been happy with them on HD trucks though. Traction isn’t as good on heavy vehicles off pavement, and mileage sucks. So far the KO3 has better wet pavement traction, so the same great traction off road on a lighter truck, and seems to be even quieter. We’ll see what I think I’m another 60K miles. I have yet to get less than 80K on a set of KO2s on a half ton, so I’m hoping the KO3 will do the same. The Mickeys have been a great tire for now. I’m not sure how well they’ll wear though. It seems to be noticeable tire wear already at 12K miles. However wet weather traction and snow has been fantastic. Minimal noise for a tire this aggressive. I’m just not convinced I’ll make it past 40K miles with them.”

“I really like my KO2s. Great traction in wet/dry/gravel/dirt conditions, not noisy on the pavement, they wear very evenly and my current set is coming up on 32K miles. The tires had 15/32" tread depth when new, I'm down to about 8/32" left, minimum tread is 4/32" so they're good for a little while yet. Won't hesitate to buy another set when the time comes.”

“BFGoodrich KO2s are an excellent choice That is all. We got whacked with that big winter weather system here in Michigan last week. My '21 Sport is fitted with 235/75R15 KO2s and I finally got a feel for their cold/snow/ice performance characteristics. My opinion is favorable. They were good enough in 5-6" of loose powder, felt planted in melty slush, but mostly impressed me on glazed ice. Didn't encounter any hardpack snow, so can't really comment on how they'll do with that, but I expect they'll perform well on that surface also. I've been running at 38 psi, seems to work okay. Road noise is minimal. Fuel economy took a giant hit, though. I have no empirical measurements to back my observations, but it appears I've taken about an 8 MPG penalty. It only gets worse with speed, too. Highway miles eat even more gas than regular surface streets. Makes sense, given the nature of these tires. To be fair, however, I knew this would happen and accept the loss. For me and my goals with my Crosstrek build, the fuel economy loss is made up for with the improved grip under any road surface I've thrown at it yet. Just wanted to share my experience so far. “Well , I have them on my 2003 Chevy Silverado 4x4. Put them on at 42k and now at 52k they look like they are 1/2 gone!! Good riding tire , low noise, great in rain and snow ,even wear pattern ,( ran at 39lbs air pressure / 35 psi in winter) but they are gonna be "iffy" for this coming winter by the looks of them.....geeeeesh. I rotated them at 6 k miles too. Nope....I would not buy the HTS Grabbers again. BOB in PA.”

“I am a big fan of General tires in general in the moderate budget category... they are a great cost to benefit tire and part of Continental tires. The Grabber HTS 60 is a great tire... as long as you don't have to deal with winter conditions. An alternative I have seen people extremely happy with is the Nexen Roadian HTX2 or the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S... but in my neck of the woods we don't usually use "3-season" tires (which is what all-season tires really are these days) very often, but really like all-weather tires or using all-seasons in conjunction with dedicated winter/snow tires.”
