Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S

Positive

Community sentiment for the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S is predominantly positive, with drivers praising its quiet highway ride, strong traction across snow, rain, and dry pavement, and appealing appearance. Several owners note that while it handles light off-road duties and daily driving well, tread life occasionally falls short of mileage expectations. “Tire Recs for F150 - mostly highway and some muddy field edges - Cooper or Falken? I mostly put highway miles on my 2011 F150 but Im a bow hunter so October and November I spend a decent amount of time driving on field edges to get to hinting spots. When its wet, these field edges get pretty sloppy. I have Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S currently. While Ive never gotten stuck, there's been a few sweaty moments where it felt close. These have been great on road tires with low road noise, great fuel efficiency, and impressive handling in wet, dry, and snow. I want to maintain on road performance as thats 90% of my use, but curious if there are any thoughts on the new Cooper Discoverer Road + Trail AT, vs Falken Rubitrek, or Falken Wildpeak AT3 or AT4. Im leaning going Coopers again and hoping for the best on those occasional muddy mornings. Let me know thoughts and experiences. Read more”

“Installed new Cooper Discoverer AT3 4s tires on my 1500 today. Took off a set that I put on three years ago when the stock tires wore out. I think I got good performance from the first set, but they didn't last as long as I would have hoped. They were getting pretty close to the wear bars, so had some life left. The guy at the tire shop estimated that I would get another 10000 miles out of them. They had a little less than 40 K miles. We got a bit of snow here this week, and I could tell that they were not gripping nearly as well as they did before. If it was spring/summer, they would have stayed on the truck. I will be driving to Maine next week, pulling a snowmobile trailer, so I decided that it was time to buy now, rather than risking a wreck. New tires look similar to the old ones. Still made in USA (good), no longer available with white letters, black wall only, in cast that is important to you.”

“I went with the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4s (275/65/18). The Michelin Primacy XC were on there when I purchased and they were terrible. I like the looks of the Coopers...the ride is much more controlled and a bit softer over broken surfaces. They do have some slip off the line of you give it full throttle real similar to the XCs. I was looking for an AT that would be great at hooking up in dry weather but probably not gong to find an AT that is sticky enough. They're brand-new so I'll give an update after a few hundred miles or so (I don't put a lot of miles so it'll take time). Thanks to the Forum for the info!”

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Handling is the exception: road tests measure it inside the dry and wet scores, so its own row comes from owner ratings only and starts as less important.
