Tire A

Cooper Discoverer STT PRO

Positive

Community members widely praise the Cooper Discoverer STT PRO for its exceptional off-road traction, towing capability, and dependable handling in mud, rain, and snow. While users note it balances well and rides comfortably for a mud-terrain tire, the most common criticisms involve pavement road noise that increases with wear and concerns regarding tread life on heavy trucks.

“I thought I'd throw my two cents in! I put 5 Cooper Discoverer STT Pro tires on my 2015 Nissan Xterra Pro-4 X in 2021. It cannot be overstated - I LOVE these tires! They're great in dry conditions, they're great in the rain, they're great in the snow, they're great on ice - they even drove over a frozen iceberg in my driveway during a winter emergency as though it wasn't even there. There's a little bit of road noise, but nothing terrible. You can definitely "feel" them when you're driving - but I kind of like that. My truck sits outside during all kinds of Ohio weather, and they don't appear to be cracking/dry rotting quite yet. It will technically be "due" for me to get a new set of tires next year. Without a doubt, I'm getting another set of these!! Happy trails, all!”

“I run a set of Nankang Mudstar tires on my 94 F350, also overseas cheap MTs. For the price, they are about what you'd expect. Very loud, very rough riding, wear fairly quickly. But they were like $600 shipped to my door for a set of 315/75R16, E load range. On my 89 F350 that I drive more often and pull trailers with, I have a set of Cooper Discoverer STT Pros. Night and day difference, but I can buy 2 sets of Nankangs for the cost of 1 set of Coopers. I don't know that I'd risk cheaper tires on my daily driver though. That being said, I do like the look of those Crosswinds.”

“I have never been let down by Cooper Discoverer STT PRO or BFGoodrich KO2 off road tires. I love the traction the Cooper STT PRO give me off-roading in the desert. I drove on KO2 from the 2018 until I got my STT PRO. I had Firestone’s as original equipment on a couple different vehicles and never had so many flats (on road or off road).”

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Handling is the exception: road tests measure it inside the dry and wet scores, so its own row comes from owner ratings only and starts as less important.
