Best test result: #9 of 22 in 2022 Consumer Reports Ultra High Performance Summer Tires (overall ranking)

“Will I regret buying Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s? I have a stock '21 GT Premium convertible with the black appearance package. It came with the upgraded Pirelli P Zero 255/40-19 tires, but with 35,000 miles, they are really worn, and I need new tires. I live in North Florida. We don't have a lot of cold weather (I missed the snow last month), but I do get a lot of rain. I don't track the car, and mostly drive on country roads and the interstate. The Pirelli's have treated me well as far as traction, dry and wet. I like the aggressive look of the Firehawks, but I am concerned about wet weather traction. Will the Firehawks be at least comparable to the Pirelli's for wet weather and general handling? If not, it sounds like the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 is the way to go. Also, the car is all black, with black rims, and the tires look wimpy. I'm not up for new rims this go-round, and I won't lower it because I like the clearance for potholes, etc., that I see a lot of in my area. I'm hoping the tires will help the look a little bit. “Hi, I currently have Falken Azenis FK510s all round and i need to replace both front tyres. Sticking with Runflats, are these a good option: Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 (225/40 R19 93Y) ROF XL *BMW [F] and is there any downsides to running 2 different brands? The back don't need changing yet car is a 335d xDrive Thanks for any info”

Tire A

Firestone Firehawk Indy 500

Positive

Community opinion on the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 is largely positive, praising them as an affordable, high-performing summer tire with great dry grip and decent wet weather traction. While some enthusiasts note they feel slightly softer or less responsive compared to high-end tier-one options like Michelins, their value for the price makes them a popular recommendation.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3

Mixed

Community opinion on the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 is generally mixed, with users comparing it to competitors like Michelin and Bridgestone regarding handling, noise, and wear. While some drivers appreciate their performance and find good deals or rebates on them, others note that competitors like the Michelin Pilot Sport offer better wet grip and lower noise, or that snow performance is lacking as expected from a summer tire.

“Originally Posted By: slacktide_bitog DTD has their memorial day sale, and the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 is $132 each, plus $200 in rebates. If you open up a DTD credit card, there is another $100 $50 rebate available (making the total $300 $250 off) I made a slight mistake, sorry But still, $200 or $250 off the set of four tires is a great deal”

“Most recent 3 tyres for me: Current at >40,000km - Bridgestone Potenza RE003 ~20,000km - Michelin Pilot Sport 4 ~35,000km - Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 The Pilot Sport 4 has been my favourite of the three by far - handling felt just as good as the Goodyear Eagle F1 whilst having less road noise and incredible wet grip, but they just didn't last long. But I enjoyed them so much I'll try the Pilot Sport 5's next as they supposedly have improvements to tread wear.”

“Hi there, I need to put new tyres on my f30 330d. I want to switch away from run flats. The tyres will be used all year round. I was veering towards the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 as recommended by this website (although I am open to other suggestions): ... However the snow performance seems to be lacking (not too surprising given they are a summer tyre) ... Therefore I was wondering about Michelin crossclimate instead: ... I live in a rural part of the south east so I get no more than two weeks of snow a year but face driving on un-gritted roads when it does snow. The rub here is that I'm compromising the cars performance for the rest of the year to make sure I'm OK for 2 weeks in winter! Any thoughts on which option would be best for somebody in my position? Thanks”

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Community buzz from Reddit and forums is shown for context only — it never changes the score.
