Community opinion on the Kumho Crugen HP71 (and its EV variant) is heavily mixed, largely split between appreciation for its comfortable, quiet ride and affordability compared to premium brands, versus frequent complaints about rapid tread wear, particularly on heavier electric vehicles. While many drivers praise initial grip, handling, and value, concerns persist regarding longevity, internal acoustic foam separation issues, and premature wear relative to advertised mileage warranties.
“Tesla model y tire HP71 crugen on tirerack is offering $80 rebate per tire.”
“New Tire Woes: Trouble finding XL Load rating. Any advice? 2026 EV9 LLR with 20k miles in SoCal (3 year lease) and the Kumho Crugen HP71 EV wore very quickly despite alignment checks etc early in the lease. Note that these stock tires are 130V with XL load rasting. Most disconcerting is that despite some modest tread left, I hydroplaned on some sprinkler runoff...so I'm not confident in these tires with the upcoming El Nino. This subreddit seems to love the Michelin CrossClimate2 but they don't come in XL load rating in this size. Neither do Defenders. The two main options are: 1. **Hankook iON evo AS SUV** (OE on some EV9s) - But these are seemingly backordered at multiple tire shops. An online vendor cancelled my order despite showing in stock on the site. 2. **Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season**. **Any advice, and anyone have experience with those Pirellis?**”
“I have The Kumho Crugen HP71 275/50 R22 111H on my 22 ESV Sport And don’t regret it at all. They are much better than original ones and also a lot cheaper in Walmart.”

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.
