“I just switched from the Pilot Sport All Season 4 to the Continental DWS 06 Plus, and the contis are WAY quieter and ride so much smoother than the Michelins. Hopefully they'll last longer too, the Michelins only lasted me about 28k~ miles despite regularly rotating them.”

Pros, cons & observations

Themes extracted from owner reviews found online — not the opinion of TireWheelGuide.

Tire A CrossClimate+

Pros

  • Strong snow and cold-weather traction for an all-season tyre, with many owners reporting winter-tyre-like confidence on snow, slush and hills, including on front-wheel-drive cars.
  • Excellent dry handling and steering response with precise, summer-tyre-like feel, along with generally very good wet grip and braking.
  • Long tread life: many reports of 30,000–55,000+ km or miles with low wear, including taxi and van use and 4-year/50,000-mile ownership.

Cons

  • Performance degradation with age: several owners report grip (wet and snow), noise and ride deteriorating after about 1–2 years, with hardening or cracking of the rubber in some cases.
  • Limitations on ice, packed snow and deep or steep snow, where some owners found them inferior to dedicated winter tyres or to rivals such as the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons.
  • Wet-weather concerns for some, including aquaplaning, being pulled around by standing water, and scary steering feel as the tyres aged.

Tire B Pilot Sport All Season 4

Pros

  • Exceptional grip and confidence in both wet and dry weather conditions
  • Noticeable improvement in ride comfort, responsiveness, and smoothness compared to OEM run-flat tires
  • Strong braking performance and resistance to hydroplaning in heavy rain

Cons

  • Faster-than-expected treadwear, particularly on performance vehicles or staggered setups
  • Noticeable road noise, humming, or cavity resonance at highway speeds for some users
  • Firm sidewalls can transmit sharper impacts over rough roads and potholes

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4

Positive

Community sentiment for the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 is predominantly positive, with drivers praising its dry and wet grip, responsive handling, and substantial upgrade over stock tires. However, several users report drawbacks including mediocre deep snow performance, noticeable road noise or ride stiffness compared to competitors like the Continental DWS 06 Plus, and an efficiency or range penalty on electric vehicles.

“Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 efficiency FOLLOWUP: On a recent drive, similar speed (70-80) and same route, I managed to get 290Wh/mi. Only notable difference was that the outside temperature was now 25-30C (instead of <10C) In trying to debug WTF tesla is doing, I started looking at the CAN bus. It appears that the car tries to keep the battery in the 30-35C range, so pretty much all that extra power usage was the car trying to maintain battery temperature in cold weather rather than the tires. Original post--------------------------------------------: just FYI about Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 235/45zr18 98Y I knew to expect a small efficiency hit, but this is almost as bad as when I towed a 2000lb boxy trailer. M3LR, stock 18" wheels and aero covers, no roof rack, no bike rack, driving in ~10-15C ~70-80mph funny part is that with the $0.46/kWh supercharging for the California portion of the road trip, driving a Tesla comes out more expensive than a 22mpg gas car @$4/gal  Read more”

“Michelin PSAS4 vs Conti DWS06+ Recently did a change-up, went from a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus (driven 17,000 miles / 27,360 kilometres) to a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4. I drive a VW GTI and live in Southern Oregon with a 75-mile (120-km) roundtrip commute everyday and here are my observations: the Michelins are a touch quieter and dare I say offer a more ‘refined’ ride the Contis felt stiffer (subjective) but has better cornering without a doubt. Ran both sets at 39 psi (269 kPa) for the 225/40-18 size. the Contis definitely brake better under cool rainy conditions (ambient temp was about 13°C) the Contis perform very, very well in snowy conditions but I’ve yet to test out the Michelins in the same environment. I drove the Continentals on more than 10,000 miles of snow just last winter. the Michelins quickly lose grip when I dump the clutch in first gear, compared to the Continentals. The ESC on my GTI turns on more often with the Michelins as well. the Michelins are ever so slightly more fuel efficient but only a 1-3 mpg difference at best, I found Overall, if you’re looking for a more performance-focused (and light snow-biased) UHPAS tire definitely go for the DWS06 Plus. As for me I’m delighted with the PSAS4 overall, but it’s also because I’m highly biased on Michelins as a brand. Read more”

“I use these on my F80 M3 competition with the 666M wheels for the winter. I had Continental DWS 06 Plus on my E90 M3. The PSAS4 have stiffer side wall than the DWS06 Plus, so the ride will feel more sporty if that's what you're after. PSAS4 also have slightly more dry pavement grip and tad more steering feel than the DWS. The DWS is a tad bit quieter and softer sidewall. Superior to the PSAS4 in light snow. Dry pavement grip is still amazing. I have 2 sets of 666m wheels for my F80 comp. One set outfitted with Pilot sport all season 4 and the other set outfitted with Pilot sport 4s.”

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Handling is the exception: road tests measure it inside the dry and wet scores, so its own row comes from owner ratings only and starts as less important.
