Best test result: #1 of 11 in 2024 Summer SUV Tyre Test (grass traction)

“Used Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV I am looking to buy these used Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires. They have 7+ mm thread left, DOT 0923. I am wondering why the two tires on the right are so rough / full of small holes, while the ones on the left are so smooth. Probably the right ones were on the front, but still what could this condition be indicating? I still haven't been to the shop to see them and feel how is the rubber, wanted to hear an advice first.”

Best test result: #1 of 8 in 2018 All Road 265/60 R18 4x4 Tyre Test (gravel handling)

“Pirelli Scorpion Verde mileage I know this is a bit of a loaded question but I have a question about the OEM tires on my '21 80th Anniversary Edition 4x4. They are the Pirelli Scorpion Verde. My GC has 35,000 miles / 56,000 Kilometers of mixed city highway use. I work from home and it does a fair amount of sitting the garage I roll into the dealer for oil and tire rotation and they try to quote me on new tires giving some story that the manufacturer tires dont have full treads on them. Some internet searches corroborate this but not completely. The mileage seems to be very low to need new tires, the treadwear is at a 4 per their sensors. I've purchased a tread depth gauge to see for myself but honestly I was thinking that I should be etting at least another 10K from the set before having to get new ones. I live in the US Southeast and not worried about snow traction at all...rain is the bigger concern. Question: Whats my reasonable expectation on this? I dont want to run them bald down to the wear bars but also dont want to prematurely get new ones.”

Tire A

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV

Positive

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV is widely regarded as a high-performance tire option for luxury and sport utility vehicles, often compared against alternatives like Pirelli Scorpions and Michelin's own Latitude series. Users appreciate its strong grip and dynamic capabilities, though questions regarding tread wear, run-flat options, and comparisons with all-season variants are common.

“Pirelli Scorpion Verde HT Circumferential Balding on Mid-outer I have 2 sets of tyres on a FWD Mitsubishi Outlander, installed 500 Kms apart. Trying to understand why the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season have this balding on the outer 4/5th band for both tyres. It could be over inflation, but the Kumho Crugen HP71 don't show same wear yet both are usually at 35 PSI. Point of note, I have a Mi Air Compressor (full) that seems to differ PSI with petrol stations (It reads 32 PSI when I pump 35 PSI at the petrol station. I usually pump more with the compressor to what it reads as 35 PSI). On tyre usage, the Pirellis have done more than 3000 Kms of gravel on the front (Kumho chip a lot on gravel when at the front). About 500 Kms was on 30 PSI before Namibians advised me to use 26 PSi front and 30 PSI rear to better handle corrugations and skidding. Read more”

“Opinions on the Pirelli Scorpion Verde AS My 2020 RR Sport SE has hit 36k and the tires are done. It appears that there's only one tire to choose from for 19 inch wheels - the OEM Pirelli Scorpion Verde. They don't get great reviews compared to other brands available on 20/21/22 inch wheels. I don't have any experience with anything else to compare on this vehicle. I can get some 21 inch wheels for $1200 locally and there are a lot of tire options. Aside from aesthetics, is getting away from the Scorpion Verde worth it for ride quality?”

“Time to start considering my next set of tires Bought my used 2010 Lexus RX450h a few years ago, and the tread is starting to get shallow, after putting about 30k on the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All-Season tires that came with the vehicle (vehicle is at 116k total). I've been very happy with the performance I've received on the Pirelli tires; especially in heavy rains. The one thing I haven't really done is take them to the snow. But, with that said, I've been looking at other brands. The Bridgestone Blizzak and UltraWeather tires carry 80k mile warrantees, and are less expensive. Plus, the latter has the 3PMSF rating along with the M+S, so it's actually rated for snowy conditions. There's also the Michelin CrossClimate 2 to consider. Am I giving up performance in rainy conditions by going with the higher snow rated tire? The Pirelli tires are about $30ish more per tire. In the scheme of things is $100-120 per set in the scheme of things? What other brands/models are people using that gives them really good performance in rain, with some trips to the snow/ice country? FWIW: My tire size is the bigger 235/55R19 that came as an option on the vehicle Read more”

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Community buzz from Reddit and forums is shown for context only — it never changes the score.
