Tire A

BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2

Positive

Community sentiment toward the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 is largely positive, with drivers frequently praising its aggressive styling, tough sidewalls, off-road durability, and solid general performance. Many owners report capable handling in snow, though several emphasize that it cannot replace a dedicated winter tire and can struggle on ice or packed snow. Criticisms center on high pricing, added weight hurting fuel economy, mud packing, occasional tread chunking, and difficulties with balancing causing highway vibrations.

“No opinion here between the Yokohamas or Falkens (both of which I would definitely put on my Outback ) but in my experience the BFG KOs are way too much tire for the Outback . I put a set of 4 on my 2013 Outback and quickly discovered that other than looking great, and being virtually bulletproof, everything else about them is a downside. Rough ride, lot of road noise, lost about 2 mpg in fuel cost, and very heavy when I did my tire rotations, which BFG says you should do every 3,000 miles to prevent excess wear. Like they say about many things, the two happiest days in my 2013 Outback ’s life were the day I put the KO2s on, and the day, after about 10,000 miles, I replaced them with “regular” tires . Great tires for a heavier vehicle, but too much for the relatively light Outback . I’ve read many Outback owner’s reviews being very happy with the Wildpeaks AND Geolanders. Sounds like that person has an agenda.”

“I changed my mind on what tire I'm getting. I bought the BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 LT in an E1 load rating . Discount tire put my truck specs in and even had new tire placard for the door jam. The new pressure to meet the truck weight and GVWR axle requirements has a recommended tire pressure of 41 psi in the rear and 41 psi in the front. The Goodyear wrangler Adventure with Kevlar C1 load rated LT tires required 45 psi in the rear and 45 psi in the front tires. This due to it's lower rating. Sales manager told me the Goodrich AT KO2 have better on road characteristics, better off road characteristics, and better snow performance. The BFGoodrich AT KO2 were my first choice but didn't think an E1 Load tire would work on my rims. They were the same price as the Goodyear Adventure with Kevlar so I came out good.”

And unfortunately it's a very expensive tire size too. Yes I've noticed they are expensive! Although I realize I am not limited to just what is in stock at my nearest DiscTire, what they have now is interesting - not many in stock right now. They range from the $169 Trailfinder All Terrain, the $206.00 Cooper Discovers ATP II, the $209.00 Hankook Dynapro HT RH12, then a big jump up to the $277.00 Michelin Defender LTX M/S, and the YUGE $293.00 BFG A/T T/A KO2. I need a tire pretty much for road driving only. I do not often go out of town but for instance I've got a 9 hour trip later this month. It snows here in my area maybe..2 weeks / year, and nothing insane. So I don't really even need A/T tires in my opinion. The Hankook Dynapro seems to fit budget and looks like a good road tire. I can't tell which ones are Chinese but, sure, I'd love to avoid that too! Thanks for all the suggestions here.”

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Handling is the exception: road tests measure it inside the dry and wet scores, so its own row comes from owner ratings only and starts as less important.
