Best test result: #2 of 6 in 2018 EVO UUHP Tyre Test (rolling resistance)

“Most recent 3 tyres for me: Current at >40,000km - Bridgestone Potenza RE003 ~20,000km - Michelin Pilot Sport 4 ~35,000km - Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 The Pilot Sport 4 has been my favourite of the three by far - handling felt just as good as the Goodyear Eagle F1 whilst having less road noise and incredible wet grip, but they just didn't last long. But I enjoyed them so much I'll try the Pilot Sport 5's next as they supposedly have improvements to tread wear.”

“Quote: Originally Posted by Brian Goodwin I own both the Falken and Toyo Proxes Sport, both in 235/40-17. I have not bothered to take the Toyo to the track because around our fun canyon roads it is clearly slower and with less grip than the Falken. The Falken feels like a race tire, complete with stiff sidewall support for crisp turn-in, used those for track and autocross over the last few months, including two wins in class at autocross. The Toyo feels like a street tire, much like the Continental ECS, complete with much lower weight because sidewalls are comparatively soft and squishy next to the Falken. If you want a soft daily driver 235/40 and you accept it is a few clicks slower than the Falken, the Toyo is great as a daily driver. But if you expect that Toyo to keep up with the Falken on track days, you will be disappointed. Great feedback, thanks Brian. Wish there were more options in this size! May just stick with the RT660s, especially now with the HKS GT2 on the car”

Tire A

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3

Mixed

Community members frequently consider the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 as an affordable alternative when replacing factory run-flats, praising its handling, low road noise, and strong grip compared to earlier tires. However, sentiment is tempered by criticism of its poor snow capability as a summer tire, complaints about the RunOnFlat variant from performance car owners, and mixed tread wear reports compared to rivals like Michelin.

“Hi I am having a set of these fitted tomorrow. They are the same sizes as yours. The total cost will be £366 including fitting and balancing. I am using a Formula One Autocentre. I don't know if there is one in your area but it would be worth having a look. Hope this helps.”

No other Goodyear summer performance tires are offered in Miata sizes in the U.S. Supersport is 19 inch and larger, I think. F1A3 is a competitor to PS4S, I've considered it for my previous Mustang V8, but poor wet performance put me off. Dry performance seems to be fine. I have not tried it myself. F1A3R is essentially a track tire with 100 treadwear. I haven't seen people in person who drove these on a Miata. If my goal was an ultimate grip I'd probably start with more known tire, maybe Bridgestone RE71RS.”

“Hi there, I need to put new tyres on my f30 330d. I want to switch away from run flats. The tyres will be used all year round. I was veering towards the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 as recommended by this website (although I am open to other suggestions): ... However the snow performance seems to be lacking (not too surprising given they are a summer tyre) ... Therefore I was wondering about Michelin crossclimate instead: ... I live in a rural part of the south east so I get no more than two weeks of snow a year but face driving on un-gritted roads when it does snow. The rub here is that I'm compromising the cars performance for the rest of the year to make sure I'm OK for 2 weeks in winter! Any thoughts on which option would be best for somebody in my position? Thanks”

Toyo Proxes Sport

Positive

Community sentiment toward the Toyo Proxes Sport family is generally positive, with drivers praising its ride comfort, good value for money, and competent daily street grip. Many owners appreciate unique size options like 345/25-20 for high-performance cars, though enthusiasts note that dedicated track tires offer superior turn-in sharpness and ultimate traction. A common topic of discussion is the scarcity of extensive real-world reviews, particularly regarding newer variants.

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Community buzz from Reddit and forums is shown for context only — it never changes the score.
