Best test result: #1 of 11 in 2022 AutoBild Sports Cars UHP Summer Tyre Test (dry handling)

“Much deserved extra care and new PS4 tires today! Switched over to Michelin PS4 High Performance summer tires from Continental run flats on my C43, and it’s a world of difference in terms of ride quality and noise. She also got the much needed love and care with a nice hand car wash! Jealous GL63 peeking from behind, next post will be a side-by-side photo!”

Tire B

Michelin Pilot Sport 4

Positive

Community opinion on the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (and PS4S) is overwhelmingly positive, with users frequently praising the massive grip, excellent steering feel, and dramatic improvements in ride quality compared to OEM run-flats. While some note that they wear out relatively quickly and can be noisy on highways or sensitive to cold temperatures (below 40°F), they are widely considered a top-tier performance tire for both daily driving and spirited use.

“I basically always ran Michelins on the BMWs I had. Pilot Super Sport on the E91 335d (which unexpectedly did really well wrt longevity with 600nm+ and a heavy foot) and now PS4 ZP (so the runflat type) on my 320hp F31 330d. They are just really really good. Pretty pricey though.”

“Left my driveway with an outside temp of 36°F this morning and I'm on PS4's. Grip levels were fine, no one died. Although I do take corners 5ish mph slower than I normally would for the first few miles, or the whole drive if there's moisture on the road. I've found that what changes the most as the PS4 gets near and slightly below its 40°F "limit" is that its breakaway characteristics become a lot uglier. Instead of that gradual slip-to-slide progression, they start feeling more and more like they just let go and refuse to grip back up for what feels like an eternity. Drive within the available grip levels though and it's essentially a non-issue. Remember to leave extra braking distance when following cars in these temps though.”

“Have you checked to see if your wheels would accommodate a 215 tyre? Might be worth investigating. Other than that, Goodyear Eagle f1 asymmetric I would say have just as good dry performance as a PS4. They're minutely less grippy in the wet, but not noticeably so. They're also a lot quieter and a lot cheaper. I've run both PS4 and the Eagles on track, and now the Eagles are my go-to.”

How do we compare tires?

Every category score blends two independent signals. 60% comes from professional tire tests (braking distances, lap times, noise measurements), each result compared with every other tire in the same test and newer tests counting more. 40% comes from owner reviews found online, adjusted for how generously each site rates. Both use one scale: the average tested tire gets 70, the best 100. When a tire has only one of the two, the missing half is estimated from the other and the score stays closer to average; with no road test and fewer than five owner reviews it gets no score yet.

Community buzz from Reddit and forums is shown for context only — it never changes the score.
